"Let there be sleep!"

Sleeping in mommy's bed for the last time!

December 20, 2008

I must have some sleep! I must have some sleep in my own bed without any children in it. We trained Abby from the time she was born to sleep in her crib. Good girl. I must admit it was a little easier because we brought her crib into our room (and I was alot younger then!) Fast forward 9 years to a house with stairs and two old people as parents. We decided to let her sleep in our room in a bassinet....NOPE! She wouldn't have it....OK...we'll use a co-sleeper right beside me....NOPE! Wouldn't do. Little prissy wanted to sleep right between us propped up on her boppy (so many no-no's but what a person will do for a little shut eye can be scary). We were in a queen size bed (which let's face it...is a full size bed with a different label and higher price tag.) We decided to get a king size bed to accomodate us all comfortably, which was in 3 short years our THIRD bed!!!! We went from a king, to a queen, back to a king in a very short time for crazy reasons...live and learn. Because of her acid reflux, thrush, stomach issues, etc.. I was very hesitant to put her upstairs, alone, in her own room. Not to mention I was way too tired and lazy to be climbing stairs all night long. Well, this week the time had come to finally move her out! Would you believe the night we were to start she had the slightest temperature and looked at me with these puppy dog eyes as if to say..."you wouldn't put a baby in her crib for the first time

while she's sick would you?" Round one ...to Alivia. On the second night I was determined that we would start. I sent Abby downstairs to sleep in my room and I was ready for an all nighter. Surprisingly, she did really well. I never went in after I initially laid her down because she only woke up twice and put herself back to sleep both times and with NO Pacifier. Wow! Would it really be this easy? The next day I began to get sick so I knew that night would not be fun. Apparently little prissy thought because I had low energy she could change my mind about this whole sleep training thing. Totally different night. It took her much longer to go to sleep and then she woke up at 2:30 and cried/screamed off and on until 4:30! When we went in to get her, her feet were sticking out of the crib rails! Oh mercy, she had turned herself around and was so uncomfortable. Her bed didn't have bumper pads because I never bought them because every single retailer WARNS you of the hazards of bedding in a crib. Well they didn't tell me that without them she would stick her arms and feet out and scream! Hello? Can you say "DHR?"

Anyway, I called my sweet neighbor, borrowed her old "boy" bumper pads and put them on the crib. I WILL NOT GIVE IN...I WILL PREVAIL...We are off to start round 3...can you say"Silent night....all is calm?" That's my prayer this Christmas week. And we are off to buy some "girly" bumper pads tomorrow. Merry Christmas....

Tis the season!

November 24...(but it feels like Christmas!)
We are ready for the season around here! Abby and Alivia both have their trees in their rooms. Abby's is the same from last year, but we had to buy Miss Alivia a tree and ornaments since this is her 1st Christmas. She LOVES looking at the lights and her tree looks so cute in her room.
I am loving all the baby Christmas outfits...especially the santa hat! We are singing Christmas carols, watching Christmas movies, decorating, and having a ball. A baby is a wonderful gift-and it is so nice to be reminded in our crazy/busy world. It was this time last year that we found out we were expecting. It's hard to believe a year has gone by. What a blessing she is- God gave us the desire of our heart- a beautiful, healthy, INDEPENDENT-TEMPERMENTAL, precious baby! We are so looking forward to our first Christmas with her and thanking the Lord for his many blessings!

Remembering "TB"

November 21, 2008

Alivia is asleep for her morning nap (on her tummy and on my bed)...I know 2 major "no-no's"-

but if she's happy, I'm happy! Speaking of her happiness and how she is totally in control of everything around here right now, Scott made a troubling - but insightful comment the other day. Years ago we had a toy poodle named TB (not for the disease, but short for his official registered name of Prince Terry B Red- yes it was during the reign of Terry Bowden at Auburn-but that's another story for another day). He was the cutest, tiniest thing you've ever seen...and spoiled rotten. He actually thought he was a human. We decided we would take him to dog obedience classes for dog training. That would straighten him out. So picture this little, tiny dog in the same room with giant pit bulls, dobermans, german shepherds, etc. He would absolutely do NOTHING he was commanded. In fact, he just barked and "yipped" at the other dogs as if to say "this place is for dogs like you-not me". So after many weekly trips to classes and too much money spent....we had a dog who had attended obedience classes- but had not changed one bit. I think we might have been the only people with a dog to ever fail the class. We eventually had to give him away. After Abby was born he would NOT share his space with her. The day she was in her johnny-jump-up seat and he peed on her foot was the day he had to go. (Scott still says he should be lucky we let him live!) Anyway...Scott was looking at Alivia as she was having one of her temper tantrums and he was reminded of TB. He asked me if I thought this was the same kind of situation....something so little being in complete control of everyone else? We had a little laugh...and then got a little scared...Oh dear- we do hope she learns to use the potty! :)

Growing up

October 2, 2008

My little Alivia is 9 weeks old. Where did the time go? Her tummy issues are so much better. We stopped all of her medicine after I questioned if it was really helping or if she just needed to "grow" out of it. She improved quickly and gets better everyday. She is cooing, laughing, holding her head up like a 4 month old (per the doctor's comments!) and starting to sleep at least 5 hours at a time at night..HALLELUJAH! She loves to be held (by her mama) and talked to. She is holding on to her pink lovey and starting to suck on her own fist all the time. She does like a pacifier too. She has already outgrown the newborn 0-3 month outfits. I sadly packed them away for someone else and made room in the closet for bigger sizes. I love that she is healthy and growing...but my heart cries "stay little a little longer!"

I looked at my 9 year old last night and wondered when she got so big. She's changing fast...and I don't like it. I miss my little 3 year old that held my hand on long walks as we talked about God making the sky, flowers, clouds, etc. Now she is more into her friends than me, and it hurts. We already have some of that "girl drama" and I'm NOT ready for it. Lord, teach me to number my days because they are passing by....quickly

From the mouths of babes (or 9 year olds)

October....
Yesterday Abby asked me if I heard about what happened to the "fixing man". (That would be the "maintenance man" at school/church...yes I grinned but inside was LOL!) She informed me his house burned down-and wondered if he was able to "fix" everything at church/school why he couldn't "fix" his house. She thinks very highly of Daniel!

Days of our Lives

September 21, 2008
Days of our Lives used to be my favorite soap in college. Silly uh? I haven't seen it since then- although I'm sure nothing has changed...when I see commercials Marlena, Bo, Hope, etc. are all still around and dealing with the same ole stuff. Seriously? 20 years later and they haven't figured anything out? Oh well.... I digress... these days our life is revolving around the baby, Scott's job, school, family, etc. There is way too much "stuff" going on for paragraphs- so here goes "The Days of our Lives" in list form:

* right now it is almost 11:00 pm- Scott's in Orlando (had to stay overnight and didn't plan too)-the girls are in the bed with me- Alivia is snoring (too cute- she's never snored before!)

*Did I mention we were in a king-size bed? When we bought the house we had a king size bed, sold it ,(Scott said a queen size would fit the room better). There is a HUGE difference between a queen/ and a king. After 2 years and a new baby, the queen is in the basement and a new king is in the bedroom. Full circle...but AH, sweet sleep!

*Scott didn't take his phone charger (because he planned on being home at 5:45) and his phone is dead. He called me from someone else's phone briefly and told me he would call me on "skype"
OK- I just learned what skype is and it was so cool- but I couldn't figure out how to turn the volume up , so Scott was basically doing charades and writing notes until I found the "unmute" button. Abby is much more proficient than me. She tried to skype him earlier and he wasn't there. She left him a message with little pictures. How did she learn to do that? Even Scott was impressed!

*My brother in law shot part of his thumb off on Saturday night. (I know- I just kind of jumped right into that with no warning!) Scott bought a new cross bow (dangerous!) and they were trying it out when the accident happened. Called 9-1-1, went to Brookwood , got his thumb "fixed", came home really late, packed the bow up to return to the store!!!!!

*This morning after I dropped Abby off at school, I decided to vacuum out the car while Alivia was sleeping. (She loves the sound of a vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, etc.) The doors were opened to the car and the lights were on. When I was finished vacuuming, I tried to crank the car to roll the windows up. The car wouldn't crank! Battery was DEAD- Scott was out of town-
dilemna??? I needed to run errands, pick Abby up from school, etc. I needed my car! My father-in-law came by, pushed the car out of the garage, jump started the battery, and I drove to Wal-mart to buy a new one!

*My microwave (which is only 2 years old) stopped working last week. Had to pay for a service trip charge, labor, but the parts were free. (Yea, right). A car battery and microwave in less than a week. NOT what I want to spend money on.

*I cleaned out my side of the closet today! (Scott's side is later this week). It only took from 1:45 until 9:00. I used to could complete this project in an hour or 2. Not with a newborn and Abby's homework. It was a stop-go-stop-go activity all day, but it is finally done. I LOVE it when my closet is completely clean and organized. I got rid of all my "teacher" shoes. Nothing but flip-flops for me!

* I can't accomplish anything lately (except holding my sweet Alivia) and I feel like things are piling up all around me. Every inch of my house needs something- either cleaning out, vacuuming, dusting, moving, etc. I just can't get to it, which is why I feel so good about my closet. I actually accomplished a BIG task. In the words of London Tipton...Yay me! I need to clean my attic, my basement, my pantry, my car (the outside), our yard (our landscaping looks terrible)-
the list goes on and on, but it won't happen anytime soon. I've got to let it go and not worry about it. I'm trying to learn a life lesson here, but it's hard when you are a 'control freak'.

*Abby is doing so well in school! She has made 3 100's in a row in spelling, a 100 on her first math test, A+ in Bible, History, etc. I am sooo proud! This girl worked hard last year, but 3rd grade was a struggle. This year is turning out to be so much better and I am soooooo glad!!!!

*Alivia will be 2 months old on Thursday. How can that be? I had my 6 weeks check up last week and I was really sad that the whole experience (from pregnancy test to delivery) was over. It went by so quickly! She is really improving. I stopped giving her medicine (I couldn't really tell a difference) and she is much better in my opinion. She is sleeping between 4-5 hours at a time (at night). She is starting to coo and smile- and it's so much fun. Her cheeks are really filling out! I sing a good morning song (that I made up) to her each day and she smiles every time!
We love her and can't imagine not having her in our family. She "completes" us!

This is just a sample of what's been going on. Life is busy- but we are so blessed. I praise the Lord for His grace and mercy on our family.

And now....I am going to sleep...no wait...Alivia is waking up...oh well...

i will survive!

sept. 5, 2008
i'm holding alivia in my arms, so there will be no capitalization and very little punctuation...
we are in total survival mode...poor livi has severe acid reflux. we knew very early (day 2 in the hospital) she was going to have some digestive issues, but i never knew how bad it would get. for the past 2 days she has gotten progressively worse... severe stomach pains, gas, burping, screaming/crying out in pain- it is terrible! nothing we do seems to help...she usually cries for an hour or 2 and then finally gets a little relief- she's still not resting well at night (poor thing) and so i have called the pediatrician 3 times in 2 days (am i a hypochondriac?) she is now on 2 prescriptions for her stomach pains and i pray they will work! having an unhappy newborn can be VERY stressful...
so scott informs me he has to go to orlando for 8 days in early october (8 days people)..i was not happy- apparently he sensed my "frustration" because he offered for the girls and me to spend the first weekend with him. now the dilema (why can't i spell "duh-lim-uh" it just doesn't look right-sleep deprivation???) anyway....do i travel to orlando with a 2 month old to spend some family time together ? (Disney!!!) how stressful would that be? would it be worth it? (i mean, isn't a bad day at disney better than a good day at home?) should i leave the baby with my mom? :{ should i just stay home? oh decisions, decisions. i need some input especially if you have experience traveling with a baby. let me know your thoughts please. of course, if she is still struggling with her 'stomach issues', traveling will be OUT of the questions. Please pray for her (and me!)...i am so thankful to the Lord for the strength and endurance He gives us on a daily basis. not to mention His endless supply of Grace! "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"...

Too many "titles" for one blog!

August 25, 2008 *WARNING! Some material may not be suitable for all readers!!! :)

August has been a blur! How could the summer be over, my newborn be 3 1/2 weeks old, and my nine year old be at school? I managed to feed Alivia, get dressed, and get Abby to school on time, with camera in hand, and in the rain no less! (Be impressed people, be very impressed!) Especially the part about being dressed. Let me back up a few days. Last weekend Alivia developed thrush (looks like white milk mouth but doesn't go away and can cause major problems...which it did!) She infected me (as the lactation experts so kindly informed me when I called them in excruciating pain while nursing...think razor blades and fire and you'll have some idea what I'm talking about.) Alivia had to have yucky medicine and I had to mix 3 different creams and apply after nursing (very time consuming and painful). The nurses said it could take 48-72 hours to see any improvement. (Really? This is a week later and I'm still hurting on one side!) In addition to the cream, they suggest you "air dry" as often as possible. Not really a problem since the pain doesn't allow you to wear a shirt! So for 3 days all the blinds were closed, I'm in severe pain, SHIRTLESS, and homebound. Let's just say poor Abby saw more than she wanted and needed to. Now let's fast forward to Friday when Scott's big "V" procedure was scheduled. (Fortunately Abby had a spend the night party and missed all this drama). I got to be "in the room" and can I just say it was the most fun I've had in 9 months and 3 weeks! I think every woman who has experienced childbirth should hear a doctor tell their husband "drop your pants and put your feet in the stirrups!" Oh the look on my husband's face! It was almost more than I could take. I thought I might lose a stitch or too. Before you think I'm too cruel, just know I have been in pain....real pain people...and I needed a laugh! It was only a few minutes before he got some really good "I don't care about anything" medicine and didn't care anymore. The doctor was a hoot and the whole procedure literally only took 15 minutes. So imagine us coming home-me "air drying" and Scott applying "frozen peas". What a sight! (No-I take that back...PLEASE don't try to visualize this!)
My neighbor (who was unaware of what we were going through) calls and asks if there is anything we need. I fill her in and tell her we need garbage bags (not something you want to run out of with dirty diapers around). She tells her husband about the garbage bags but NOT about our "health" issues. Chad comes over later to deliver the bags (yes I had a shirt on), and when he walks in the door...my husband...who is still very dopey...says "Hey Chad" while removing the frozen peas! I wish you could have seen the look on Chad's face...he just simply said "Hey, how's it going"...as if people pull frozen peas out of their shorts everyday! It wasn't until the next day that Scott realized what he did and was TOTALLY embarrassed. Chad simply shrugged it off and laughed. What a great neighbor! (When we all first moved in our houses and nobody had blinds yet- we used to tease and say "somebody's gonna see somebody naked". Let's just say we came as close to that line this week as possible!) When you get old and have had 2 children...modesty just goes out the window. Someone asked Scott this week how we were doing. He said "Honestly? We are old and it hurts!" So true! We love precious Alivia more than words can say and wouldnt' trade this experience for the world. But WOW- the physical, emotional, and hormonal issues are almost overwhelming. You forget how much you love SLEEP until you don't sleep through the night. You forget how much "stuff" a baby needs until you go somewhere and it takes 3 people to carry it all (not to mention you have to start getting ready to leave like 3 hours ahead of time). You forget how much laundry a baby goes through (they can't walk, sweat, run, play, work...seriously? How do they get things so dirty?) You forget what 3 meals a day are until it's 1:45 and you haven't had breakfast. You forget so much until that little 8 pound bundle of joy reminds you. One thing I won't forget....all the years we prayed for this blessing and how God finally answered our prayers. I won't forget how quickly time passes (as proved by my niece starting college and my friend dropping off her last child to kindergarten today.) I will cherish EVERY minute of this experience because I know it will pass too quickly. I'm done blogging- I'm going to hold my sweet Alivia while I can!

The long awaited arrival of Alivia Scott!

August 1, 2008

After a sleepless and quite miserable Wed. night, Thursday turned out to be a great day! I woke up dilated to 3, progressed a little slower than we all hoped, but at 2:50 I was checked, pushed 4 times, and Alivia was born at 3:13 on July 31! I had kept saying how cool it would be if she was born on August 8th. Then she would be 08-08-08. Imagine my surprise when they told us she weighed 8lbs. and 8oz.! We got our 08-08! It was sooooo quick-and pretty painless. The bad stuff came later (when I was vomiting, and then passed out in the bathroom floor. Fortunately, the nurse caught me and I didn't hit my head. I don't remember anything except all these nurses standing around me and the awful smell of ammonia.) Apparently I lost alot of blood, had no pain medicine in my system, and hadn't eaten in over 30 hours. My pain level was excruciating, but they have finally helped me manage it. Alivia is doing great. She took to nursing right away (although she is still a little groggy and we are trying to work out a schedule). She is so content and beautiful. Her hair is light like a strawberry blonde and she is very alert (her eyes were open immediately after birth). Abby is absolutely thrilled and is having a hard time "sharing" her. She thinks she's the only one who should hold her...very possessive big sister!

Thank you all for your continued prayers, support, and encouragement. God is soooo good!

One thing I forgot to mention. 9 years ago when Abby was born, I would have had to have a c-section if it hadn't been for a terrific nurse named Daphney. After a long, terrible labor, her shift started at 5:00. She aggressively worked on me and Abby was born at 8:38. 9 years later....guess who walks into my labor/delivery room....Daphney!!!! She had just returned to work at Brookwood after being gone for over a year. She was scheduled to work the NICU, but several things changed and she ended up in my room. (The blessed hand of God!) Once again-she was a life-saver and Alivia was born just before her shift ended! God is sooooooo Good!

***UPDATE!

July 29, 2008...5:00 pm

Boy, does God have a sense of humor! After a wonderful time of prayer and fellowship with Him this morning, I was at peace, surrended, and totally resigned that I would probably have to wait another week or so. I planned on going to the doctor, hearing I hadn't progressed, smiling, and going home to wait on the Lord. NOT! My doctor looked at me, said he had good news, told me I was dilated to 2, 25% effaced, and that I would need to check into the hospital tomorrow afternoon at 4:00, stay overnight, and be induced Thursday morning. WHAT???????????
I could not have been more shocked. I am STILL in shock! Can you all hear God laughing at me?
I was soooo worried about next week when He had planned this week all along. Now I'm "scrambling" because mentally I am so floored by this news. A July baby ya'll! Oh my goodness-I have to go get a car seat in the car, Abby's bags packed, etc. etc. Seriously, can you HEAR God laughing!!!!! Pray for me! :)

God's Timing

July 29, 2008
Dear Lord,
Forgive me once again for trying to take matters into my own hands. I am a perpetual complainer often looking at the negative rather than the positive, overlooking the blessings, seeing the glass half-empty rather than half-full. Forgive me for the anxiousness of my heart, the restlessness of my soul....time and time again you have proven your goodness....you have shown me how perfect your will and your timing is...why do I doubt You and your ways? Help me to trust you Lord for "there is no other way to be happy in Jesus than to trust and obey." Thank you for friends who have encouraged me with your word and prayed for my anxious heart. Thank you for allowing me to experience such helplessness and lack of control that I am driven to your word. Your word is a balm to my soul, a comfort that no one else can give, truth that drives out all doubt, and peace...blessed peace that the world can not give or understand. Today I rejoice that "thus far the Lord has brought us" (thank you reformed grits!) I rejoice that you will "never leave me nor forsake me". I rejoice that it is not up to me to figure out the times that are set for me for "my times are in your hands". I rejoice that "there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven; a time to be born!" I rejoice that "all the days ordained for me were written before one of them came to be." I rejoice that "this is the day the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it!" Today I can go to the doctor's office and not worry about what he may or may not say. If I am progressing...praise the Lord. If I must wait a little longer...praise the Lord. Your ways are perfect and I will trust in your timing...not just for the delivery of Alivia...but for your perfect will for our family and for your kingdom to come. ~ Amen

Start the countdown!!!!

July 22, 2008

Well, we are back from the beach and now the official countdown can start (nothing on our calendar except waiting for the baby!) I had a doctor's visit today in which he informed me that nothing is happening yet. That's when I looked at him and said, "OK, time to get serious. Just how long are you gonna let me go?" (Abby was 2 weeks late and still had to be induced!) He just laughed- and I said "NO...I'm serious!" He said they have some new "tools" now that they didn't have when Abby was born that helps labor along, but he can't do anything until I have progressed to at LEAST 1cm. So start praying people. All he needs is a little opening, 1 little cm and we are in business. All you moms who have had your babies early or on time- you really need to hit your knees because you have NO idea what it's like to go 2 weeks over! He said he could induce as early as July 31, but that he definitely thought we would have a baby by my due date. He better be right because you do NOT want to get the hopes of a tired, fat, sleep deprived, heartburn suffering, get up 7 times a night to go to the bathroom, back hurts all the time pregnant lady up and then disappoint her! HA HA

I'm so thankful for this pregnancy. Alivia Scott is truly an answer to prayer. I have had a healthy 9 months, she is very active, and we are so ready to meet her!

Lucky #12

June 29, 2008
(How is it I had more time to blog when I was teaching than I do now? Go figure...)

Funny this post should come after our "Happy Anniversary" post. Last week Scott when golfing with the men from church. I was fine with it because I had my last baby shower (sweet neighborhood friends!) and he was supposed to be home around the same time I was. He came home a little late (NOT surprising to anyone who knows him) only to say he had to go back because he had left a golf club on the course. OK-so he left at around 6:30 am-got home around 1:30ish, visited with me, my sister, and brother-in-law briefly then called Chad (our neighbor) to ride with him to look for his "club". It was 2:28. At 4:00 he was still not home. I started doing the "math" in my head. Maximum of 30 minutes to get there and 30 minutes to get home still leaves him 32 minutes to pick up his "club." I called...."Where are you????" I'll be leaving shortly. "What's taking you so long?" He told me he had to look for the "club"-it wasn't just lying around waiting on him. I was STEAMING!!! (You have to know we were waiting on him to go to the pool-and we had been waiting for quite awhile!) He finally gets home at 4:33. We head to the pool and our neighbors (Chad and Heather) met us there. I was in FULL pregnant vent mode asking Heather "aren't you mad? what took them so long? HOW in the world do you lose your golf club (for the 2nd time!) on the course? Don't you hit the ball and put it back in the bag for crying our loud?"....Heather is allowing me to "vent"-but she doesn't seem quite as irritated as I am. "Aren't you mad?" In her gentle voice-"Well, maybe a little". That's it-that's all she said. Weird, I thought. UNTIL the next day when the REAL story unfolded:
Yes, Heather was MAD and gave Chad an EARFUL when he came home (right before they came to the pool) until he finally told her what they were really looking for. "Oh," she said. Then Chad tells her she can't tell me until Scott tells me and he won't tell me today because he already knows how mad I am. So there she sits by me in the pool-knowing the REAL story, not able to tell me, and furious that she had been put in this position! She goes home that night and tells Chad to tell Scott to tell me (are you with me?) what really happened. Which led to the next day
when Scott says "I need to tell you something but you have to promise not to get mad." Are you kidding? Does he know me at all? I'm mad before he even begins because I know this must be a doozie. It wasn't the "club" he lost. On the 11th hole he realized he hadn't put sunscreen on. He didn't want to get sunscreen all over his watch, ring, etc. So he took them off and put them in a basket on the golf cart. (Imagine horror music in the background as you continue reading).
It was only when he was getting in the car to come home (remember my sister was here so he had to come home right away to help them load their sofa that had been in my basement) that he realized he had his watch and wallet, but NOT his ring. He walks in our house and didn't say a word. Then when they left, he said he had to go back to get his "club". He and Chad went back to the 11th hole and looked EVERYWHERE!!! Finally, Scott was ready to come home and let me know that he had lost his 2nd (that's right...2nd!) wedding ring when Chad said-wait a minute...Let me just ask these guys (on a golf cart -apparently with a #12 on it?) if I can look in their cart. After Scott couldn't talk him out of it-he walks very casually up to these strangers, explains the situation , and asks them if he can look in their cart. He picks up the little basket and lying right there on Lucky cart#12 is Scott's wedding ring! No Joke! Those men couldn't believe it...Scott couldn't believe it....Chad just kept saying "I told you 12 was my lucky number!"
So-all was well- the ring was found, I finally learned the truth, Chad was off the hook with Heather, and Scott and Chad were planning a trip to Vegas where they would put everything on lucky #12! (ha ha)
If you see Scott without his wedding ring, don't worry. It is safely tucked away in the drawer (where it stays!) except on Sundays....(there's no need to take your ring off at church right?)
Maybe we WILL have a "Happy 18th Anniversary"!!!!

Catching Up!

Happy 17th Anniversary!!!!

May 29, 2008

Yes, I'm still alive and I'm finally back! It has been VERY busy since my last post. *Update: the "talk" has not happened yet...she seemed to have lost interest. I was all prayed up and ready to go, but didnt' have a peace about bringing it up. Since then she asked "Now why do we need that cord again?" Which was immediately followed by "Do you have any idea how I could make a hot air balloon for my pet shop pals?" So....NO, we haven't had the talk. I'm answering questions as they come..and will be ready when the time is right!

Here's my "May" in a nutshell:

*had a surprise class baby shower at school...Fun!

*had a teacher baby shower and a church baby shower in the same week (which means 2 cakes in the same week...yum...but way too many calories! And FYI...ALL my thank-you's were written within 1 day of the shower...YEA!)

*had awards day (My sweet Abby received the Esther Award for her class- what a humbling honor !)

*cleaned my classroom, packed all my stuff, and moved it home for storage because I don't know when I will return to teaching

*had my glucose sugar test (the dreaded orange drink) and passed!

*had my teeth cleaned (yuk! but went well)

*watched my niece (who was just Abby's age yesterday) graduate from high school

*headed to the beach with my sister and brother-in-law for a fun-filled memorial day

(which leads to the following:)

If you listen to Rick and Bubba, you may have heard of Paul Thorn (Mission Temple Fireworks Stand, Burn down the trailer park, etc.) I love Paul Thorn! He's one of those crazy, down to earth, funny entertainers. I mentioned to Scott that we should try to go see him live (we have NEVER been to a concert together-don't ask me why). He begins searching the web site and discovers that he's going to be at LuLu's on May 25 (our 17th Anniversary!!!!) Pack your bags was the only next logical step. I mean, Paul Thorn, Lulu's, our anniversary, and memorial day...it could not have been any clearer if an airplane had written in the sky!

I kept hoping that I would get a chance to meet him, tell him that I had driven 4 hours while 7 1/2 months pregnant, and maybe get a picture. We got there a little early (while he was casually doing a sound check). I just walked right up to the stage and said "Paul, I'm your biggest fan, drove 4 hours to get here, we are celebrating our anniversary, could I please get a picture with you....the following is the result of that conversation.............

No, this is "not my baby daddy"....but it is a hilarious memory for us! Scott laughed so hard, as did I....this is soooooo Paul Thorn!!!!

THE Question!!!!!!

May 8, 2008
I was "tucking Abby in" for bed (as usual) when she looked at me and said, "Mommy, I have a question....How do you know when it's time to have the baby?" Ummmm............
This led to some gentle answers, simple analogies, etc. which led to more questions:
*Where does the cord come from?
*How do you know when you are pregnant?
*How does the pregnancy test work?
*How does the baby grow?
*How does the baby come out?
Oh Lord, I am NOT ready for this! My sweet little girl (who STILL believes in the tooth fairy, Santa, and everything naive) is asking QUESTIONS! WHY is she asking questions??? Can't they just stay young and innocent forever? I was so caught off guard. She is not quite as mature as some other children her age (for which I am thankful!) She seemed satisfied with my answers and I told her if she had any more questions I'd be glad to answer them. I kissed her good night, made it down the stairs, when I heard her voice...."Mommy, I have one more question. How does the baby get in your stomach?"
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Uh, we'll talk about it tomorrow ok? "
"Will you remember?" she said.
"Yes, I'll remember! Good night!"

Is today "THE" day? Please pray for me. I do ask for the Lord's wisdom and words to handle this subject that I wasn't quite ready to talk about (maybe she gets her naivet`e from me?)

Any moms with experience out there? HELP!!!

Tagged!

April 24, 2008
Did I ask to be tagged? Did you read my previous blog? HA HA
Here goes (from Distybug) 7 random facts about my childhood:

1. When I was in 5th grade, I played Ngana (the polynesian child ) in South Pacific. Yes, polynesian children have dark skin and dark hair. Yes, I had fair skin and blonde hair. My mother dyed my hair black....it turned green! Great memories! I still know the song I had to learn in French!!!!!!

2. I cracked my left elbow in 1st grade by turning a cartwheel in our yard, falling, and landing on a rock.

3. I broke my right wrist and forearm in 4th grade by wrecking my bicycle (which led to my mother being questioned by the doctor since I apparently "easily" break my arms?...DHR anyone?)

4. My older sister and I used to play "Charlie's Angels" by riding our go-cart through the neighborhood....(one of our favorite games!)

5. I always wanted long hair when I was little, only it wasn't going to happen. THIN, short hair is all I had (Abby is reliving this "dream/nightmare" with her short/thin hair and wanting long, lustrous locks!) My granny would clip a towel on my head so I could pretend I had long hair. I would wear it all day long, swing it over my shoulder, climb the tree in her front yard like I was something! I miss her!

6. In 1st grade I got in "trouble" when my teacher left the room and I went to the front of the class to lead all the students in "cheers". (Did you all know that I was a cheerleader, and now Abby is on a competitive cheerleading squad? Maybe she's more like me than I realized!)

7. My lips stayed chapped all the time when I was young. My mother saw me waiting for the bus one cold day. I was licking my lips in the cold wind. No wonder they were chapped all the time! She told me to stop, the chapped lips got better. (I am still addicted to chapstick though!)

April 17, 2008
I am in full vent mode! Since last week I have been getting TONS of "junk" e-mail. It really irritates me (and I mean with a capital I in IRRITATE) when I go to check my e-mail and I have 37 incoming messages and only about 3 real e-mails! In extremely tiny print at the BOTTOM
of the page is the blasted little message (you've all seen it)... if you would like to stop receiving our e-mails, please click here to unsubscribe. When did I subscribe????????? I don't want to "unsubscribe" if I don't want something....I want to subscribe if I DO want something!!!! Anybody out there feeling my pain? You start a petition-I'll sign it.....a protest-I'll march....anything to STOP having to unsubscribe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Borrowing a blog....

April 14, 2008

I recently read a friend's blog "10 reasons why this day stinks!" (Everybody know who I'm talking about ?) I read it, laughed, and commented "Oh, we all have those days." Today was my day-so here's my list:
1. Scott was sick in bed (I hate it when someone in my family is sick-especially if it's me!)
2. We were out of "fresh" donuts for Abby's breakfast (don't even give me a lecture on healthy food choices)
3. It's April-I should be wearing cute spring clothes NOT trying to find something warm that will fit me!
4. I have a HUGE zit on my chin-and it hurts!
5. Abby has a project at school that needs shoeboxes. The shoeboxes we got out last night are apparently too small...only she didn't tell me that LAST NIGHT-she waited until this morning-right before we were getting ready to leave!
6. Abby was trying to carry 3 shoeboxes, stale broken donuts, a lunchbox, backpack, a bag of dry cereal (to make up for the stale donuts) down the stairs all at one time....and fell...and DROPPED the 3 shoeboxes, stale broken donuts (now broken even more), and began to cry when I began to yell "Why are you carrying all that at one time? Why is some of this stuff not already in the car?"
7. We were late for school ...which meant I missed Monday morning prayer...and I really needed it!!!!
8. My pants (that I picked out at the last minute) are too short and look AWFUL (only I didn't realize it until I looked in the mirror at school!)
9. I took my kids out to recess (in the cold) when it began to rain (of course!)
10. I wanted some mashed potatoes for supper...I turned the stove down too low...then mixed them, and apparently they were too cold...now I have cold, potato soup...HONESTLY-how do you mess up mashed potatoes??????????????

and #11-(just for Reformed Grits...my laundry baskets are no longer empty!)

Seriously, I'm not "looking at the half-empty glass"....this was just one of those Mondays!
Now here's the good news: I only have 4 more Mondays until I am home for good and summer starts! Hallelujah! I am very thankful for Lamentations 3:21-23(another one of my favorite verses)
"Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope; Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness!"
Can't wait for Tuesday!

PS...I must let you know that we are watching America's Funniest Home Videos and having a great time laughing....Could it be Tuesday already?

The Goodness of God!

April 9, 2008
Do you ever get truly awed and amazed at how good God is? How he answers specific prayers? How very personal He is? This past week God has just "showed off" for us. I am not returning to work next year so I can stay home with our precious new baby. We didn't know how it was going to work out, but we were just trusting God. He did an AWESOME work in our finances at just the right time. Coincidence? I think not. The only other big thing that was bothering me was the baby's due date (Aug. 7). I was so anxious because Abby was due Aug. 6 and wasn't born until the 17th. I just kept telling God (like He didn't know) but Abby needs some time with the baby before school starts, I don't want to have to worry about the stress of starting school and the timing of the new baby, etc..... Today I find out that school will NOT start until August 25 (2weeks later than planned...oops-I don't know if this is "public" information yet-so you DIDN't hear it from me:) Coincidence? I think not. Now whether Alivia ( for those of you who don't know her name is Alivia Scott...Livi for short!) is born "on time" or "late", we still get family bonding time without the worry of school! Look, God can part the Red Sea, but He can also answer prayers that are very personal, very real, and may seem very small. That's what amazes me about our God. HE CARES...and He is sovereign and knows what's best for us even when we don't trust Him. I love it when He "shows off!" :)

Psalm 139 is my favorite scripture...may it encourage you today!

"Our Song"

April 7, 2008
OK, I need to blog about the baby, the sonar, etc, but I just read Gayle's blog about her sweet song with her "honey" and it reminded me of a funny story about "songs". Years ago Scott and I were driving with some friends of ours and we were (believe it or not) talking about songs. I told Scott...."We don't really have a "song". We need a song!" (For those of you who don't really know us well YET, you will soon discover that we are not the mushy gushy types, we argue (strike through that-EXPRESS our OPINIONS) loudly and often- but all in the name of love. That's just who we are (take it or leave it).
Anyway-we are driving down the road when Scott says..."I do have a song for you." I was excited and curious when he put a CD in. Could it be a little Lionel Richie? maybe some Vince Gill? (These are the CD's that were in our car at the time.) Next thing I know out comes the lyrics from Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers (if you do not know who they are STOP reading this blog right now!!!! You are either not old enough to appreciate it or you don't know good, harmonious country music when you hear it!) Here's what came through the speakers:
chorus:
I did, I did, I did ( in 3 part brother harmony) not mean to mislead you
And I never intended for push come to shove
I don't, I don't, I don't have one thing against you
I just wish you were someone I love!

OK- some of you might have jumped out of the car and headed straight for the nearest lawyer's office and filed the papers. Not me....I've never laughed so hard in all my life. (Which is, I hope, what he intended in the first place). From that day on- that's been our song. Call it our "warped" sense of humor and appreciation for each other-but we just "get it". We have an understanding-
there is NO song that expresses what words could never really express. Scott is who I TRUST, RESPECT, APPRECIATE, and can't imagine a day without! But in the words of our song...."I just wish he were someone I loved!" HA HA HA

PS....You can listen to "our song"...just click the link at the top left of my blog (above our picture)

Spring "Break"....NOT!

March 23, 2008
Happy Easter! (or as my dear friend says...Happy Resurrection Day...I love that!)
I know this should be a day of total joy, but the "human/selfish" side of me is a little sad that school starts back tomorrow. Maybe it's because I don't really feel like I've had a "break". My day off began with moving the furniture out of the study/soon to be nursery. (ok-I didn't move it-but I supervised very well!!!!) Once you begin moving furniture, it is quickly followed by "rearranging" furniture, which means you see walls and floor that you haven't seen in awhile, which means you see DUST and other "stuff" that shouldn't be there, etc. etc. do you see where I'm going here? It was a never ending task...which thankfully DID end but at the END of the day.
(day 1 gone!) Next day was church (which I know should be a "restful" day, but never really is).
On Monday I did actually take a few hours "off" and head to the park. It was wonderful weather and good fun with friends. Shortly after I drove Abby to her mawmaw's house for a sleepover with her favorite cousin JoJo. After visiting and driving home the day was over (day 2 gone).
I got up early Tuesday morning and began the dreaded task of swapping winter shoes for spring/summer shoes. (I know I could avoid this by getting rid of some shoes...seriously? Do you really think I'm going to do that? Don't ya'll know how much I love my flip flops? all 22 pair! not really (more like 17) ha ha) ....anyway....I packed up all the boots and winter yellow boxes and made way for the open toes! Then I headed to the kitchen to tackle the dreaded tupperware cabinet. How is it that all the lids and bowls get mixed up and some just downright disappear? That cleaning led to the casserole and pots/pans cabinet...do you see a pattern? Then it was time to go get Abby and take her to cheerleader practice...(day 3 gone) On Wednesday I decided to wash all the baby clothes I had been given (by my sister and a friend-thanks!) to see what we actually had. Let me just say , after 8 loads, that I now know why Kate (from Jon and Kate plus 8) has someone come in and do her laundry! I have NEVER done 8 loads of laundry in a day (maybe not even a week!) and will NEVER do it again! But...all those adorable clothes are sorted and hanging in the closet- labeled with sizes 0-3/3-6/etc.(and yes-they are organized by casual, short sleeve, long sleeve, "dressy church" , Auburn, and Christmas...call me OCD but it sure does look good in there!) Whew! (day 4 gone)...How can spring "break" be almost over? I haven't had one day of a "break!" I didn't even add in the cleaning out of Abby's closet, getting "yard sale" stuff out of the attic, shopping for Easter shoes, buying the nursery furniture and setting it up, cleaning out the car, choir practice, a birthday party....oh my! I do feel like I accomplished a LOT! Scott asked me if this was early "nesting"? I sure as heck hope so...cause all I can say is -when is summer? I need a break!

Plunder!!!!

March 5, 2008
Sunday was a great day! The weather was beautiful, we were actually ON time for church, and Jeff preached an incredible sermon (again). It was titled "Binding the Strong Man". The main points were :
1. our enemy (Satan) is real...he is a personal enemy to me and those who are loved by God and wants to destroy both.
2. our enemy exercises great power/influence in the world. He is at work through industries, music, movies, businesses, and individually. We are at war!
3. (but here's where the good news starts...) our enemy has been bound! (I John 3:8, Col. 2:13-15, Hebrews 2:14)
4. (this is the best part...) our enemy now is being plundered!!!! What he tries to take and destroy, God returns and blesses (even more than we imagined!)

2 years ago I experienced heartbreak like I had never known. For years Abby had been praying for a baby. Scott and I joined her in prayer when she was 5. After a year and a half of "trying", we finally found out we were pregnant! It was March, 2006. At the same time we were trying to sell our house (another miracle story for another day) and found out that it had sold!!! So in the same week 2 huge prayers were answered and I was on "Glory" cloud nine! Scott and I decided we would tell Abby about the baby on Easter Sunday (what better day right?). It was not to be. On Thursday (before Easter) I miscarried. We were living with my mother (our house had sold and we moved out quickly) and in a bathroom that wasn't mine- I experienced an unbearable loss. I was already scheduled for a DNC on Friday (I had a final sonar on Tuesday and there was no heartbeat), but I just wasn't ready for the "sudden" end to it all. On top of the pain, confusion, etc. we were trying to "hide" all this from Abby. (She still doesn't know about the miscarriage. God has not given us a peace about sharing this with her yet. I know the day will come-but for now (and then) we kept it to ourselves. That made hearing her prayers every night even HARDER!) We moved to our new house (ANOTHER miracle story), met wonderful new neighbors, and ended up joining a new church (a blessing of wonderful new friends).....but the loss was still indescribable. For years Scott and I were content with just Abby and thought our family was complete. Only when GOD (through many people, scriptures, and events) changed our hearts did we begin praying that His will would be done in our family. We really thought we would get pregnant "right away". It didn't happen. We both got "tested" ....completely normal. That's when the questions and doubt began. "God, did I misunderstand you?" "Where are you in this?" "Why is EVERYONE getting pregnant but me?" "Why would I finally get pregnant, only to lose the baby?" ....Hard questions! Many tears! Many days, weeks, months, and years of praying for a "peace that passes all understanding". That peace FINALLY came after so many people (including many of you readers) prayed for me and with me. I learned more about God and is faithfulness, sovereignty, and goodness through this trial than anything else in my life. I FINALLY surrended. We "assumed" that our family was complete...and that Abby would have her sibling in heaven. In December, I reluctantly took a pregnancy test. Let me say VERY RELUCTANTLY. It was positive. All I could do was cry. I didn't know why He had finally answered our prayers, but I do know His timing is always perfect. We were so scared and nervous. Would everything be ok? The first and second sonar were such vivid reminders of our previous lost, but such promises of great joy when we saw that little baby developing, heard the heartbeat, saw the arms and legs moving......
On Thursday (as you've all read in the previous post) we found out it was a girl! (85% ha ha)
This was to our entire family's delight! She was moving around so much that Scott said, "I can't believe you can't feel that!".....and then Sunday came.
Sitting there listening to Jeff preach about "plundering the enemy", I felt a little "bubble"...and then another, and another, and then a KICK! Let me just tell my fellow Presbyterians that I nearly jumped out of my pew and shouted Hallelujah (but I restrained myself...ha ha) I motioned to Scott that I felt her kick and he just reached over and patted my belly and grinned from ear to ear. Talk about plunder! How gracious is our God to walk with us, tenderly wipe away our tears, let us throw temper tantrums and then hold us close, and give us the "desires of our hearts."
Plunder indeed!
(Maybe now you all will know why we are so over the moon about this pregnancy, acting like no one has ever been pregnant before, downright giddy....it's because of the plunder!) :)

It's a ???????????????????

February 28, 2008 (if you are reading this blog on Thursday...do NOT tell anyone until Friday after 8:00 am! I still have to tell Abby, my family, and my students...Thanks!)

So today was the BIG day! They call my name and I'm so nervous. The sonar nurse said we would "try" to see what the baby was, but I was a little early and technically cheating. (I felt like I had been sent to the principal's office). So after seeing this baby kick, squirm, flip, open its mouth, etc...she says "Well, I'm going to have to say it's a ????????????" and she typed a ? all across the top of the screen. (I thought she was kidding- she wasn't!) "What do you mean?" I said. Then she proceeds to tell me how the umbilical cord is kind of in the way, yada yada yada-
"Well what do you THINK it is?" I said. She told me she was really leaning toward a girl because she saw 3 lines. Scott is dying laughing in the corner (he said this was my punishment for moving my appointment up)- I'm furious at him for laughing, mad at the sonar tech because she can't tell me for sure.....anyway....we head toward the doctor's area when my nurse, Lindsay, comes running up and asking me what it was. I tell her the whole story and she says "Let me see the picture". I show it to her and she says..."Oh, it's a taco! It's a girl! (Don't you think it's hilarious that they use phrases like 'taco', 'hamburger', 'turtle'). She then goes to tell the other sonar tech (who I learned today was the BEST) what had happened. She (Paula) then grabs me out of the doctor's office and tells me to come to her sonar room that she'll do another sonar herself. Yippee!!!!! (This was so much fun ya'll -the whole office was as excited as I was). She wouldn't let me tell her anything about the first sonar. She made me lay WAYYYY back (blood rushing to my head) because the baby was in an "odd" position. Right away she says..."Oh, I see a taco, it's a girl!" Really???? Are you sure??? She said "Go shopping girl...(by this time they had all figured out I was there because of Cottontails AND 3 other patients had called and tried to reschedule their sonars for the same reason HA HA HA). I asked her to give me a percentage. The first sonar was 75% sure it was a girl and the second sonar was over 85% sure. (Let me just say...if James Spann said there was an 85% chance of rain I would be carrying my umbrella and NOT planning a picnic!) So......we will find out for sure in 3 weeks when we do the big sonar (looking for organ development, etc), but for now it looks like it's a TACO! :)

PS....We did predictions at school today (my class and Abby's). 12 out of 14 in her class and 8 out of 12 in my class predicted a boy. Abby was NOT happy....perhaps our news tonight will make her feel better!!!!!! :)

I just gotta know!

February 22, 2008
I have a dear friend who can't stand not being "in the know." Seriously, she has to have details and facts as soon as possible! Well, yesterday I pulled an _______________ (name of friend).
My "gender" sonar was scheduled for Monday, March 3. Not a problem until I realized that Cottontails (the once a year arts/crafts show similar to Christmas Village) is only in town until March 2. Sidenote: we are giving Abby's room a "big girl" makeover...moved her furniture around, changed her bedding, and removed her "baby" stuff since she will no longer be "the baby". I've been looking for wall decor, accessories, etc and can't really find anything-so I was very excited about Cottontails because I knew I could find some cute stuff there.
Anyway...I started thinking....how can I go to Cottontails and NOT know what I'm having? All the cute possibilities of clothing, room decorations, etc etc. I mean, I would have to get business cards, order on-line, pay shipping....what sense does that make? So-the only reasonable thing to do was to change my doctor's appointment. Right? I called and asked if I could come in on Thursday instead of Monday....the nurse said "you mean the following Thursday?" I said, "Oh no, the Thursday BEFORE!" She actually said yes...but she sounded a little skeptical. I didn't DARE tell her I was changing it so I could go shopping at Cottontails and know what I was having! So I have a BIG request of all you readers....next Thursday PRAY that we get a good sonar picture and EVERYTHING is perfectly CLEAR...then I can shop in peace!!!!! :)

PS....Absolutely NO comments about "not finding out", "ruining the surprise", blah blah blah
People...do you really think that I (who am the ultimate planner) would NOT find out? Give me a break!

Pregnancy Brain + Open Door = Police!!!!

February 1, 2008
Well let's just say that "pregnancy brain" is in FULL swing! (Although what you are about to read is NOT all my fault, only 1/3). Yesterday I copied a grammar paper, lost it, and found it all in less than 5 minutes. (If you know me at all, you know I do NOT lose things!) Today, it was a little more serious. Abby and I left home early afternoon to go watch my niece play in a basketball tournament. She's a senior and we want to see every game we can. I got in the car first (problem #1)....closed the garage door (or did I?...problem #2) and off we went. My niece won her game and we were off to celebrate at McDonald's. (No, I was NOT going to eat, just hang out for the fellowship.) As we were pulling into the parking lot, my cell phone rang. It was my neighbor. The conversation went something like this....
"Wendy, are you at home?"
"No, why?"
"Well, Nick said the police are walking through your house."
"WHAT?"
"He said your garage door was open, your house door was open, and your phone was off the hook."
"Oh my gosh! Is Scott there?"
"Well, I tried to call him but couldn't get him."
"I'm on my way!"
In the meantime, I have to tell everyone we're leaving the police are at my house. I call Scott and got him...."Get home, " I said. "The police are at our house."
With flashers on I drive hurriedly to see what in the world is going on.
When I arrive the 2nd and 3rd police cars (the "backup") are leaving. Scott is grinning from ear to ear and says..."Honey, I think you left the garage door up."
"I'm pretty sure I closed it."
Then the officer begins to unfold the scenario....He was regularly patrolling the neighborhood when the door of one of the model houses was open. He got out, checked it out, and locked the door. Then he sees my house. Garage door standing wide open(see problem #2). "Um, that's odd" he thought. He steps in a little further and hears what sounds like the phone off the hook. He assumes someone is upstairs needing to call 911 and can't. (Actually, when someone calls my house, lets it ring 4 times and doesn't leave a message, it makes an AWFUL buzzing noise for what seems like forever! Guess who called, let it ring, and DIDN'T leave a message...that would be Scott!) The officer begins to climb the stairs to the kitchen and finds the interior door "cracked" (see problem #1...Abby was the last one out of the house and "thought" she closed the door!) (All 3 of us had a small part in this "emergency" situation...ha ha) All this adds up to a major problem in the officer's eyes. (Sidenote: you must know that this particular officer just transferred from Tarrant where in his words, "an open door meant everything in the house was gone!) He calls for backup, my neighbor calls me, and I call Scott. In the meantime my sister had called my mom and dad (who had left the ballgame and were on their way to Alabaster) and they beat both of us to my house.
So, once the officer explained the "scenario", we put the pieces together. Abby forgot to close the door, I forgot to close the garage door, and Scott called the house and hung up at exactly the same time that the officer is walking through the basement. Abby's exact words when he said he found the kitchen door ajar..."Oops...my bad!"
OK, so what can we learn from this story:
1. It pays to have good neighbors who look out for one another. We love Lauchlin Lane!
2. ALWAYS close the doors and check them...then double check them!
3. Don't be in a hurry and beat your child to the car...check the door behind her!
4. WAIT in the driveway until the garage door is down!
5. Thank every officer of the law you see. They are willing to put themselves in danger at any time for us regular folk. God bless 'em!
6. This may be the most important....if you call Wendy's house and she doesn't answer...hang up before it rings 4 times or LEAVE A MESSAGE!!!!)

I'm only 13 weeks and this pregnancy has been quite a ride already!
So if I have "pregnancy brain," what's Scott and Abby's excuse????????????

A great day...

January 21, 2008
I know it's been awhile since I posted (but it's kinda hard to type and vomit at the same time!)
I have been extremely sick (nausea, dry-heaves, cramps, exhaustion, headaches, you name it).
So how do you say all that when someone says "how are you?" My new answer is "I'm pregnant!" That should cover it! I am so thankful for the sickness (which everyone says is a good sign!) I had another doctor's appointment today. Scott had to work, so Abby and I went together. I had a sonar scheduled, but didn't think Abby would get to join me. The sweet nurse said she would try to do a "tummy" sonar and Abby could come in. So we called Scott on the phone and held our breath until we heard that strong heartbeat! (167) Abby was so excited to see the hands, legs, etc. But then we got a huge surprise. We saw that little baby (only 2 inches!) start kicking and flipping. What in the world? The nurse started laughing and said the baby was putting on a show for us. I looked at Abby and asked her if this baby was going to be a tumbler like her. After our visit we headed to TCBY (which you all know is my favorite treat!) That's my ritual now...visit the doctor and get a treat! So all in all it was a great day. No school, slept late, great doctor's report, chocolate yogurt, and now a long afternoon nap.........
