February 28, 2008 (if you are reading this blog on Thursday...do NOT tell anyone until Friday after 8:00 am! I still have to tell Abby, my family, and my students...Thanks!)
So today was the BIG day! They call my name and I'm so nervous. The sonar nurse said we would "try" to see what the baby was, but I was a little early and technically cheating. (I felt like I had been sent to the principal's office). So after seeing this baby kick, squirm, flip, open its mouth, etc...she says "Well, I'm going to have to say it's a ????????????" and she typed a ? all across the top of the screen. (I thought she was kidding- she wasn't!) "What do you mean?" I said. Then she proceeds to tell me how the umbilical cord is kind of in the way, yada yada yada-
"Well what do you THINK it is?" I said. She told me she was really leaning toward a girl because she saw 3 lines. Scott is dying laughing in the corner (he said this was my punishment for moving my appointment up)- I'm furious at him for laughing, mad at the sonar tech because she can't tell me for sure.....anyway....we head toward the doctor's area when my nurse, Lindsay, comes running up and asking me what it was. I tell her the whole story and she says "Let me see the picture". I show it to her and she says..."Oh, it's a taco! It's a girl! (Don't you think it's hilarious that they use phrases like 'taco', 'hamburger', 'turtle'). She then goes to tell the other sonar tech (who I learned today was the BEST) what had happened. She (Paula) then grabs me out of the doctor's office and tells me to come to her sonar room that she'll do another sonar herself. Yippee!!!!! (This was so much fun ya'll -the whole office was as excited as I was). She wouldn't let me tell her anything about the first sonar. She made me lay WAYYYY back (blood rushing to my head) because the baby was in an "odd" position. Right away she says..."Oh, I see a taco, it's a girl!" Really???? Are you sure??? She said "Go shopping girl...(by this time they had all figured out I was there because of Cottontails AND 3 other patients had called and tried to reschedule their sonars for the same reason HA HA HA). I asked her to give me a percentage. The first sonar was 75% sure it was a girl and the second sonar was over 85% sure. (Let me just say...if James Spann said there was an 85% chance of rain I would be carrying my umbrella and NOT planning a picnic!) So......we will find out for sure in 3 weeks when we do the big sonar (looking for organ development, etc), but for now it looks like it's a TACO! :)
PS....We did predictions at school today (my class and Abby's). 12 out of 14 in her class and 8 out of 12 in my class predicted a boy. Abby was NOT happy....perhaps our news tonight will make her feel better!!!!!! :)
